Aid missions – help from international doctors

Doctors for Madagascar organises regular aid missions with volunteer doctors and medical staff from Europe. These volunteers treat patients directly and also provide training for local staff.

Madagascar suffers from a severe lack of specialised medical staff. We organise visits by European specialists to train local medical staff and to treat patients who cannot be treated by local medics due to lack of specialised training.

The training of local staff forms an important part of the aid missions.

All participants in aid missions have signed up as volunteers, and therefore bear the bulk of the costs themselves. Doctors for Madagascar supports these volunteers, organises their placements and plans their journeys. More concretely, this includes taking care of flight bookings and vaccinations and providing insurance for the entirety of their time abroad.

The number of patients and the intensity of the work can be a real challenge for both local and international health professionals.

We ask that all volunteers for aid missions are trained specialists, have experience working internationally and speak good French.
