Our scientific research

To evaluate our projects and their impact, we collaborate with the University of Antananarivo, the Charité Center for Global Health, Digital Last Mile Health Research Lab at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health. This allows us to continuously adapt and refine our projects to render them more impactful and effective.

Our research focuses on the following topics:

Infectious Diseases

Accessing treatment for tuberculosis (TB) in rural regions of Madagascar is challenging. We employ both qualitative and quantitative research methods to identifying these barriers and find the most cost effective ways to address them.

Maternal and Child Health

In Madagascar, mothers and children face significant health challenges, particularly in remote areas where access to quality healthcare is limited. Our research focuses on understanding these challenges from both individual and systemic perspectives. A key part of our work involves operational research aimed at designing and implementing cost-effective interventions to improve access to and the quality of maternal and child health services in areas where healthcare is hardest to deliver.

Financial risk protection

The high costs of healthcare in Madagascar often prevent people from seeking adequate treatment. We aim to better understand the economic burdens patients face and identifying those at greatest risk of experiencing catastrophic health expenditure. We are also exploring how digital technologies can help overcome these financial barriers to care.

Non-Communicable
Diseases and Stroke Care

Our research on non-communicable diseases focuses on understanding and improving stroke care in Madagascar. We aim to understand community and health worker knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding stroke as well as to assess stroke prevalence and stroke types affecting the population. In addition, we conduct design and operational research aimed at delivering quality stroke care.
