Ahoy there, container!
In October 2015, we sent another 40-foot shipping contained on its way to four clinics in the south of the island. Its contents: a Toyota LandCruiser HJZ 78, converted into an locally-adapted ambulance, 10 palettes with medical aid materials including a complete laboratory for tuberculosis diagnosis, efficient air conditioning systems for two operating theatres, many surgical instruments, plastic models and simulators for continuing medical education, as well as large quantities of surgical gloves and materials for stitching and dressing.
The container spent two months at sea, and it took our partners in Madagascar almost as long again to negotiate the customs-free import of the contents. So we're all the more pleased that everything arrived safely in the end and could be distributed between the clinics - and all this despite heavy rains! Preparations started weeks before the shipment: we had to find storage space, coordinate materials donated from numerous sources and clarify the complex details around shipping and customs. Everything was packed up with a few volunteers one weekend at the start of October, and DHL Cargo covered the cost of the entire transportation themselves, making this mammoth delivery possible in the first place. On behalf of our partners and the local people, we would like to warmly thank all those who supported and made this possible: misaotra!
